Dyno Jargon Explained

Movement Types

Distance – The main difficulty of the dyno is the distance between holds

Double Dyno – The climb has two separate dynos!

Powerful – The moves requires a lot of power. Often crimpy or difficult to generate movement

Paddle – an intermediate hold is required to change direction. Rare and very tricky to master

Step Up – One or both feet must step on a higher foothold during the launch

Compy – Short for Competition style. Often exotic and wild movement on real rock

Techy – The main difficulty of the move is subtle and balancy. Requires more skill than raw power

Dyno Details

First Ascent – The first person to establish the dyno

Grade – Community-driven scale to suggest difficulty. Hueco and Font scales are used on this site. See conversion chart here

Area – The main area the dyno is located. Think large areas like Rocklands or Font

Sub Area – The more specific location of the dyno

Start/Catch Hold – A description of the starting or catch hold. This could be a jug, crimp, or sloper

Skin Eater – This describes a dyno that has rough or sharp texture. You will likely lose skin fast on one of these
